THE FREEDOM OF THE MASK
l
The goal is to cover the actor in order to uncover. The mask conceals the
wearer, but also reveals. This safety behind the mask functions as a
"permission-giver" and allows the actor to go beyond what is
comfortable and familiar into the unknown and dangerous. The actor is
looking to surprise themselves and to live in the moment and to truly
experience what it means to listen. When fully engaged in the work the
Mask the actor disappears and a new life enters the actor with tremendous
ease. It is a highly rewarding experience, and as much fun to watch as it
is to play.
